Common Car AC Problems We Fix All the Time

Now is the time that you use your car’s AC. If you’ve noticed that the air blowing through the vents isn’t as cold as normal, or if you are experiencing other air conditioning problems, look no further than Meadows Automotive. Here are common AC problems we fix all the time in our auto service shop.

Clogged Condenser

Because of where it is located, it is easy for your vehicle’s air conditioner condenser to get clogged with dirt and debris. If you took off your vehicle’s front grille, the condenser would be sitting right there. Unfortunately, this means it gets pelted constantly by debris and small rocks. This debris can clog the condenser and prevent it from working and it can also dent it and damage it.

Dead Compressor

The compressor is a hard-working AC part. In fact, the compressor can actually break down if it isn’t used often. The more you use your compressor the better it operates. In newer automobiles with temperature thermostats, the compressor runs all the time. In older automobiles, it does not. If your compressor hasn’t been run in a long time, it might have died.

Electrical Problems

Vehicle electrical problems can also cause air conditioning problems. Electrical problems specific to the air conditioner include the AC switch on your dashboard refusing to turn on the air conditioner, a blown fuse in the fuse box, and corroded or frayed wiring in the air conditioning system. We can check your air conditioner’s electrical system to make sure everything is okay.

Low Refrigerant

Low refrigerant levels will also cause a reduction in how cold the air blowing through the vents is. If you haven’t had your air conditioner serviced in years, the refrigerant could be leaking out of the hose connectors or it may have evaporated. We can charge the system, which means we replace any missing refrigerant so you have the coldest air possible blowing through your vents.

Malfunctioning Fan

Finally, if your air conditioner fan is malfunctioning, you may not get any air coming into your vehicle’s cabin. The reason why the air feels warm is that it is air blowing from the outside. The fan could be malfunctioning on its own, or it could be due to a problem with the air conditioning electrical system. Either way, we can get to the bottom of it and fix it.
